How do I know if it is time to consider a new treatment?

Finding the right treatment option for your child may require some trial and error. Your child might not be getting the full benefit of his or her current ADHD treatment because of:

  • Missed doses
  • Reluctance to take medicine
  • Difficulty swallowing pills
  • Unpleasant effects associated with treatment
Your child's ADHD symptoms may also change as he or she gets older, and you may notice that his or her medicine does not seem to be working as well.

What can I do if I think my child's medicine does not seem right?

To help determine if your child is on the right medicine that best fits his or her needs, monitor how he or she is doing both at home and at school.

YOUR CHILD AT HOME

Is your child having trouble controlling his or her behavior?

It is also helpful to talk to your child to understand how he or she feels about the current medicine.
